Thailand is at the center of Indochina region spread between
India and China, with its northern most tip situated in 20 degree
NORTH, while the southern end is in 6 degree NORTH. It is often likened
to an ax with the Malay Peninsula posing as a handle.
Total area amounts to 513,115km, equivalent to double
the area of the Honshu Island combined with he Shikoku Islands.

Of major mountain ranges in Indochina Thailand is rested
between the Central Ranges and Koron-Annam Ranges, demarcated by the
Salween and Mekhong rivers.
From the mountains of the North (the highest peak is Doi
Intanon 2,565 m),the rivers of Ping ,Wang,Yom,Nan flow and gradually
join each of her to make the Chao Phraya river feeds the central basin
and flows into the Gulf of Siam.
The another great river of Thailand is Mekhong which flows
from north to east, disappears into the mountains of Laos emerging
again at Loey prefecture, then flows southeast marking Thai-Lao border.
The Northeast forms a plaeau of which north-eastern half
is sliding into the Mekhong. The other is lifted and sustained by
Dongrak and Dong Phraya mountains.
The south is a stretch of elongated land dividing the
Sea of Andaman and the Gulf of Siam. The land along the Gulf os Siam
is blessed with rivers and plains
Climate
Being situated in Tropical zone, the temperature remains steady
at the higher point throughout the year, without drastic changes in
a day nor by seasons. Rainfall is the main factor affecting seasons.
Monsoon brings rain in most of Thailand except a portion of Southern
Thai and Eastern Seaboard region. Thai calendar divides a year in
two:
Rainy season May-October
Dry Season November-April
Dry season is further divided into
Winter November-February
Summer March-May
In winter, temperature hardly drops below 10ßC, and in summer
above 40ßC. Throughout a year average temperature remains between
26 degree C and 28 degree C. In rainy season, some regions are affected
by cyclone or typhoon, but intensity is less and damages are usually
minor in comparison with other parts of Southeast Asia
